Encephalitis, which literally means an inflammation, is a rare disease caused by a virus and can lead to a permanent brain damage. Encephalitis occurs only 0.5 times per 100,000 individuals. The disease can be caused by a number of different germs and therefore the viral bacterial infection can disseminate in many different ways. Usually, those kinds of infections are not dangerous at all and they go as fast as they come with proper treatment. However, if the virus attacks the brain it can be fatal for newborns.
