Cerebral Contusions

A cerebral contusion involves a bruising (or bleeding) of the brain. Any type of head trauma accident can result in cerebral bruising. When the brain bounces against the skull, this can result in contusions deep within the brain tissue. A cerebral contusion can result in severe problems because the brain does not have any extra room for swelling. Normal brain signal functions don't work properly when this occurs.

Cerebral contusions can be the result of a head trauma accident. If your loved one has suffered from catastrophic brain injury due to someone else's negligence, contact our Brain Injury Lawyers today.

Common causes of cerebral contusions include:

  • Falls
  • Auto accidents
  • Assaults
  • Other catastrophic impacts to the head

Vomiting, weakness, and severe headaches are all indications that cerebral contusions may be present. The victim may also have difficulties remembering things and may have a feeling of confusion and drowsiness. These can also be indications of a mild to catastrophic head injury. Mild contusions are common causes for hospital admittance. If the individual passes out and cannot be awakened easily, they have experienced a catastrophic injury which may result in brain damage and immediate medical attention is recommended.

An MRI or CT scan may be ordered if a doctor suspects that a patient may have a cerebral contusion. Usually, someone with a contusion is required to stay in the hospital and be closely monitored. Most of the time, surgery is not required but large contusions to the brain may need to be removed surgically.

If your loved one has suffered from catastrophic brain damage due to someone else's negligence, contact our Brain Injury Lawyers today.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) costs the country more than $48 billion a year, and between 2.5 and 6.5 million Americans alive today have had a TBI. Survivors of TBI are often left with significant cognitive, behavioral, and communicative disabilities, and some patients develop long-term medical complications, such as epilepsy.
